Women in the cities

Women in the Cities

Urbanic's beloved cities and the women who live there.

How do these women, who embody the atmosphere and energy of their respective cities, wear Urbanic? Though they differ in location, age, and taste, they all find joy in expressing Urbanic's style in their own ways. Experience the diverse people and senses of various cities through Urbanic30.

Rosa Park, Los Angeles

@rosaliapark

Rosa Park, co-founder of CEREAL magazine and founder/director of Francis Gallery, met with us in Los Angeles, where both her home and Francis Gallery are located. With galleries in both Los Angeles and Bath, UK, Rosa aims to make deeply thoughtful and aesthetically refined artworks accessible to all.

Rosa is wearing *Bianco Shirt* in deep navy and *Limoges Satin Skirt*, *Gigi Cardigan* in chestnut, and *Savory Half Pants* — all by Urbanic30

Urbanic (U): Can you introduce yourself?

Rosa Park (R): I’m Rosa, the founder and director of Francis Gallery. I split my time between Los Angeles and Bath, UK with my partner Rich and our son, Turner. I’m about to turn 40 but really excited and looking forward to this new chapter! As I get older, I feel more in tune with myself, and I’ve come to truly appreciate growing wiser with age.

U: How would you describe your style in two or three words?

R: Comfortable, understated.

U: What’s your go-to fashion item that you would consider your ‘classic’ favorite?

R: Button-down shirts. I wear oversized linen ones in warmer weather, and slim-fit silk or cotton shirts in the colder months.

U: What’s your latest purchase?

R: Brown suede loafers. I needed a go-to shoe for fall, and I thought these were perfect for the season. They’re very comfortable, and I’m looking forward to wearing them as I travel between Los Angeles, London, and Seoul.

U: What has been capturing your interest the most lately?

R: Gardening. I’m an absolute beginner, but it’s something I want to become better at. We have a small back garden and front courtyard at our home in L.A. and I’ve been pottering around every morning, as we continue to plant new natives and see how they grow.

U: Can you name three things you can’t live without in your daily life?

R: My reading glasses (because I read every day), a smoky quartz crystal by my bed — it’s my little good luck charm, and my water bottle. Staying hydrated is key these days. A

U: Are there any places you enjoy visiting for inspiration?

R: I get a lot of inspiration from nature in Los Angeles and throughout California. I love visiting the Huntington Botanical Gardens and driving along the PCH to Malibu. In the UK, I’m usually inspired by the history and architecture of Bath and Somerset. In London, I enjoy visiting the Sir John Soane Museum and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

U: What are some of your favorite museums in the United States?

R: Dia Beacon in Upstate New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, Norton Simon Museum in Los Angeles, and Neue Galerie in New York. I’m also planning to visit Crystal Bridges in Bentonville and The Menil Collection in Houston soon.

U: Can you tell us about the art movements or artists that you love?

R: My personal taste in art is quite eclectic. When I collect art, it depends on where I am in life or what space I want to decorate with. Right now, I’m inspired by Hilma af Klint, Suzan Frecon, and Alicja Kwade. And for Korean artists, I love Song Hyun Sook, Yun Hyong-keun, and Do Ho Suh.

U: Do you have any book recommendations?

R: The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal. One of my all-time favorite books.

U: How was your experience of the photoshoot in Urbanic 30?

R: I think it’s perfect for everyday wear! I especially love *Limoges Satin Skirt* because it’s so versatile — you can dress it up or down.

U: Can you tell us about the arts displayed at the gallery during the shoot?

R: The works are by L.A.-based artist Aram Saroyan. He’s best known for his minimalist poetry from the ’60s, but he has also been creating visual art since his teenage years. His recent solo exhibition featured sculptures and colorful drawings. He prefers not to title his works,

U: The works in your gallery seem to reflect a clear vision in terms of the atmosphere and artistic direction you choose. Through Francis Gallery, what do you aim to convey?

R: One of our main goals at Francis Gallery is to create an environment where visitors can connect emotionally and intuitively with the works and the artists. We believe we’ve achieved this by designing a space where visitors feel comfortable. The round wall in the center is one of my favorite features — it softens the open rectangular space and adds a sense of mystery, helping visitors engage with the exhibition naturally while fostering a sense of intimacy. It’s also my favorite spot in the gallery.

Visitors are welcome to bring their family, friends, or pets, enjoy some tea, and stay as long as they like. Whether in Los Angeles or Bath, we aim to connect visitors to the art and the artists on a deeper, emotional level.
